This will be an alternate timeline set in the Harry Potter universe, though not entirely so.  This asks the question: what if Draco had also been watching Snape’s untimely demise?  Not entirely sure where it will follow, but I am somewhat thrilled by the notion of Harry Potter helping a deranged Snape look for his soul.  This is the prologue/premise of that story.

The darkness tasted bitter on his tongue, but not unpleasant. The sort of flavor one quails at first taste, but continue to experience until the perception turns. Thus the ancient language glided along the current of his magic. They twisted together, forming an unnamable spell that plied its perversion upon the victim.

 

Through this unspeakable evil, the man who had not moments ago relinquished his last drop of blood, trembled by the hands of dark magic.

 

Arise now, he whispered. Arise from beyond; tear through the veil that separates your soul from the Living. Arise, I command you; arise and live once more.

 

Something primeval and perverse settled into what had once housed the soul. Whether in the caster or his victim, one could not be certain.

 

But no matter now, for Severus opened his eyes and screamed. The magic had exerted its will, but the soul was not meant to follow. In one fell swoop, Severus reached up and strangled Draco Malfoy until the boy fell limp in his arms. 

 

He smiled in the crook of the boy’s blushing neck.
