MOVIES
Spiderman ... rock ... my ... panties. Seriously, the man is gnawable. And QAF! (s'all I'll say for now 'bout it). Shrek 2 was hysterical (Donkey and Puss in Boots my favourites ... I just love that pussy ... hehehehe). Butterfly Effect was disturbing and ultra cool. (Look ma'! Ashton Kutcher CAN act!). Am waiting to see Spartan, Arthur (although I'm increasingly ambiguous about it), Catwoman (rowrl indeed), and will buy Van Helsing and Hellboy when they come out.

BOOKS
I just finished reading 'Coraline' (Coraline, not Caroline). Neil Gaiman. Is. A. God. Seriously disturbing material. I love the Sci Fi bookclub. Have requested NG's Endless Nights and a few other goodies. I'm starting to read 'Peter Pan' (you know, the original? Although, hmmmmmm Jason Isaacs ... *homer drool*) and I have Steven King's 'Dreamcatcher' in the queue. Spectrum 8 (fantasy and horror art) was spectacular and is on my nighttable for easy perusal (O Brom, how I adore thee).

LIFE
Work is great. Life is great. I'm going to Cuba in August, and I'm slightly panicking.

S'it for now. :)

I agree so much with the Neil Gaiman comment. I read Coraline a couple months ago, but I think I read it in a less than a day, it was so great. Yay Neil! Woo!

Cuba, cool. It'll be an adventure. :)

Somewhere on his website, Neil was talking about his different projects. Regarding Coraline, he said that apparently kids see it as an adventure, while it gave grown-ups nightmares.

I think I should re-read it and scare myself senseless. =)

You probably already know this, but some genius has linked Neil Gaiman's blog to livejournal so you can friend him.

I totally agree he is a genius. He is a drug, and I am his pusher at my bookstore. Out of everything I've read, I found Coraline the scariest of the bunch.

There's some scarier stuff in Smoke and Mirrors. The one hidden in the introduction for people who read introductions gave me the willies.

I think the button eyes in Coraline are scarier, but I agree Smoke in Mirrors is pretty darn scary. I tend to prefer the pretty stories: Stardust, Sandman: the Dream Hunters, and Neverwhere.

*Smoke AND Mirrors, not In. Oops.

Neil's books will be among the first acquisitions I make when I am finally in charge of my own library.

I read Coraline for the first time on Saturday on a 3 hour train trip. I finished the book and was very upset that there was still more train trip left and I sat there sulking that such a good book was so short until I got to my station. Then there was too much walking to sulk effectively.

My favourite is still Neverwhere. I love the Marquis de Carabas.

You know, if you've never read Sandman, you might want to get a couple of the graphic novels before you read Endless Nights. The stories in the latter will make more sense if you're familiar with the setup. (There's a list of the graphic novels here, if that's any help.

Also, read Good Omens. You won't regret it.

Cuba? That should be really interesting.

Holy crap, your coming to Cuba? Which part? I'm stationed here in Guantanamo bay, I don't suppose your coming here? Would be great if you were, I'd love to meet you and discuss your art. I didn't know Americans were allowed in the 'real' cuba as we call it. Let me know,

Kia

Apparently you can go via other countries like Canada or UK. Someone told me they're going to be opening up to direct American tourism eventually, I wish I could go before it..loses something.

Actually, I'm not American, I'm Canadian. I'm going in Holguin, staying up there for a week. It's not that far off from Guantanamo, I think, but I don't know how much time we'll have, since I am going for my friend's wedding. Still, cool. :)
