So I didn't get a chance to see Star Trek.  Or rather, I saw the first part.  The second part was spent in the bathroom, trying not have a heart attack.  Good timing that my panic attack decided to have, I began to feel the effects of anxiety just as the crew was completely assembled (minue Scottie, which irked me).  My husband patiently and wonderfully understood and we escaped the din of the movie theatre and went for ice cream instead.

<3 husband.

So I will wait until this comes out on DVD.  But from the first part, I can honestly say it was good.

It did make me laugh aloud that Kirk DID, in fact, do a green chick.

Try going again. It's a great movie. Orion slave girls non-withstanding. :)

Unfortunately, our budget has a hard time trying to justify spending 20 bucks to see a movie a second time (no matter how far into it we got the first time). We'll wait patiently ... :) But I certainly have no hard time believing you; what I have seen so far made me rekindle my Trek <3. :)

All adoration for your husband. Certainly having somebody who misses out on the second part of a movie without grumbling is a best consolation for having an evening messed up by a panic attack. I hope it wasn't too bad? I know I don't like crowds myself but I only ever came close to a panic attack once in my life.

The dream man had from the moment he first looked up to the stars: explore new worlds and do pastel-colored chicks.

It was a pretty bad one -- the worst, in fact, in a long time. This was the sort of panic attack that shoots out of nowhere. I don't hyperventilate when I am gripped by such anxiety, but my heart has been clocked going near 200/m. NOT a fun feeling, and certainly not comfortable while hiding in a bathroom stall and hoping against hope your husband followed you out of the theatre when you left in a panicked hurry.

"The dream man had from the moment he first looked up to the stars: explore new worlds and do pastel-colored chicks."

So true, so true, and hilarious. As far as pastel-colored chicks go however, she was really attractive. But I prefer Uhura, no contest.

If it's not nosy to ask: is this usually caused by crowds or closed rooms or just out of the blue? It certainly sounds like something to spoil an evening.

I hope you'll find a way to lessen these attacks; till then it sounds as if you at least got a great husband to make up for it.

It's actually my heart. I get palpitations, which were diagnosed as perfectly normal for my physionomy, but then they have this adverse effect on my brain: they panic me. So whenever my heart decides to give an inspiring rendition of Wipe Out, it sometimes triggers a panic attack. However, when I am in a familiar place, it doesn't bother me at all. I don't much like crowds, but they don't cause anxiety, nor do closed rooms. It's more agoraphobia that I have, where being in a place like a movie theatre, where I am very far from home, and the prospect of going down the aisles and crossing over to go pee in an unfamiliar washroom ... well it snowballed from there. Please don't think I'm nutty ;)

Sounds sorts of sensible from the POV of physiology: if your heart suddenly starts beating like no next Thursday then it's a reasonable assumption on the part of your brain that there's something scary around, so just in case: panic, everybody.

It sounds like things that would normally (okay, dicey word, I know) just make you uncomfortable can start the "oh, something to panic about!" circle.

Oh. I thought that one was a given with lj-bloggers who write HP fanfic. Snupin fanfic? Me? No idea what you're talking about. Sorry. Shall try to recalibrate my world view forthwith.
